Suspect Allegedly Throws Chainsaw During Wild Car Chase in Washington
A harrowing police chase unfolded in Washington state when a suspect reportedly hurled a chainsaw at deputies during a high-speed pursuit. The event was captured on video, adding a dramatic layer to the already chaotic scene.
The incident kicked off just before midnight on April 19, when a woman reported her car was taken from an apartment complex in Parkland. A K9 deputy soon spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver refused to comply, speeding off and leading officers on a chase.
The pursuit, involving two suspects in the vehicle, moved onto Interstate 5 southbound. Footage and radio transmissions from the chase illustrated how rapidly the chaos unfolded.
Early on, a deputy noted minimal traffic ahead as speeds reached approximately 70 mph. The situation took a turn when a deputy unexpectedly radioed, announcing, "Just threw a chainsaw," warning that the passenger was tossing objects, and urging others to stay vigilant.
Officials stated that the suspect also tossed rope and climbing gear onto the road, significantly increasing the danger for deputies in pursuit. The chase veered precariously off Interstate 5 towards Joint Base Lewis-McChord. As they exited towards a logistics gate, the stolen car got stuck near a roundabout.
Captured audio and video revealed the moment the chase halted, with an officer declaring, "He’s stuck… get set up around here," as units swiftly moved to surround the area.
Both suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies broadcasted a description of the driver: "black pants, white shirt," while setting up a perimeter.
Utilizing a K9 unit to track the suspects, an officer is heard clearly warning through video, "My dog will find you, he will bite you," offering the suspect a chance to surrender. Moments later, the K9 located the passenger, with the video capturing the intense standoff as deputies converged, shouting repeated commands until the suspect was apprehended.
The 31-year-old passenger was treated at a hospital for a dog bite and is expected to face multiple charges, including first-degree assault for allegedly throwing objects and chainsaw at deputies, vehicle theft tools possession, and attempting to evade law enforcement.
The 28-year-old driver initially evaded capture but was later detained by military police on the base. He faces charges of felony eluding and motor vehicle theft.
